Chicky Mamas Again!? April 1-7, 2010

Since we only got three chicks out of the 11 incubated eggs on the first batch our dear friend decided we needed to hatch a few more. So with our second hatching we got 9 chicks. It is just amazing to watch the hatching process. I think we are done now being Mamas. Of course now the girls want goats. Shaun put his foot down on that one, at least until we have more land.
The black ones are smaller than the rest and don't have feathers on their feet .
This white one has feathers on its feet(and is now quite big.)
It didn't take them long to figure out how to get out of their box.

April 4th, 2010 EASTER

Our day consisted of listening to a wonderful conference, (I could have sworn they were speaking just to me.) It was about Families, the Savior, and making sure we teach our families about the Savior. In between the 2 sessions of conference Carrie & Mitch came over and we hid egg for the kiddos. Here are a few pictures of the hunt. You know I just thought of something, if the egg represents the new life the Savior provides for us shouldn't we be actively "hunting" for it? Just a thought.
Isabelle finding an egg, we tried to get the ducks to sit on it but they wouldn't cooperate.
Shem helped Eric find eggs, Eric didn't quite know what to do at first but he caught on pretty quickly.
Hannah giving the thumbs up that this is fun!
Daniel even got into it.
We had to make a few hard to find for the older ones.
This year I put puzzle pieces in the eggs so when the were done we put the puzzle together. after putting the puzzle almost all together we realized we were missing some pieces, so we had to go on another egg hunt. I think we found the egg the next day. Next time I think I will count the eggs before we hide them.
Later we had a wonderful dinner, Carrie made asparagus which most of the kids never had before. One or two have asked for it again, the others... maybe when their taste-buds develop. What a great day!

March 12th Ducky Mamas

I know, I know, It is becoming a zoo around here. Hannah got a book from the library and studied up on ducks. She saved her money along with a little help from Aleena. Then they pestered me until I took them to the farm store where they bought 3 ducks. They sure are cute but they are noisier, messier, & smellier (is that even a word?) than the chicks. They have grown very quick they out grew the box they were in before we could get their pen built. We believe they are Indian Runners which means they stand erect and run instead of flying off.

Proud Mamas

We put a little tub of water in their box and you would have thought they were in heaven, they splashed and played and drank. Their downy feathers was like fluffy wool so they didn't get very wet. they are getting noisy and stinky so we can't wait to keep them outside permanently!
