Pumpkins and Sarah's 13th Birthday

I am a little behind in my posts, but I will keep going and hopefully catch up one day.

Carrie and Eric came over and brought us pumpkins to carve. We had a fun time making a mess together. Here are a few pictures of all the gooey fun.

Sarah is officially a teenager now as she turned 13.

She had a birthday party with a few of her friends. Sarah planned the whole thing and she did it on a budget.
They ate doughnuts on a string.
This was an interesting game, you divide into 2 teams one person from each team puts on a raincoat and gets shaving cream on their head.
Then the other team members stand behind a line and try to throw cheesepuffs onto the shaving cream of their teammate.
The one with the most cheese puffs wins.
They had a lot of fun with this game.

The Girls Adventures. Oct. 2010

We took a field trip to the Gorge Washington Carver monument. He was an amazing man. He was born in slavery, He (as a baby) and his mother were stolen, he was found by the side of the road but his mother was never found. George was raised by the family that owned his mother. He loved plants and had a secret garden. His thirst for knowledge took him far. "The primary idea in all my work was to help the farmer and fill the poor man's dinner pail." He worked with plants and taught at universities, he also created a traveling school that would go out to the fields and teach the farmers there. He was a very positive man and inspirational.
We spent the day on the farm he grew up on doing the things he would have done as a child. here the girls are watching corn being shucked and ground.
Aleena is dipping a candle.
One of George's chores was the laundry, he was quite proficient at it because it put him through college.
Hannah trying her hand at ironing.
Isabelle using a washboard with lye soap. (she says the water was cold)
This is one of his many quotes, he always acknowledged God in the things he saw, learned, and did.
"How can I be sure that I'm on the right road?.... 'In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.' Now you must learn to look to Him for direction and then follow, and you will never go wrong."

The next adventure was a ropes course that Sarah and Hannah got to go on.
They had an amazing time and were very brave, so brave they did it twice.
Sarah was really high up!
Hannah one handed.
Once they crossed the ropes they zip-lined down. They both thought this was the best part.

We have another Adult in the family! Shem's 18th Dan's 15th

I can't believe my baby is 18!
He is a puzzle cube addict
Do these two look like they are related or what?
His cheesy side.
Dan turned 15, and of course he had his favorite, pumpkin pie!
A cool gun and cool clothes, he's happy.
I had to throw this picture of Eric in there, he is such a fun little guy.
He looks pretty tough with his air-soft gun.
